Chalk Based Painting Class

Chalk Based Painting Class

Last week I was invited to attend a Chalk Based Painting class at Dixie’s Weekend Boutique. The boutique is owned by two sisters, Jenny Hendricks and Sandy Rasmus, and recently opened this summer. Their business hours are during the weekend, so it was fun to do a little pre-shopping during the middle of the week.

Down the middle of their store, there was a long table set up with mason jars, paint, frames, paint brushes and wine glasses. After seeing the wine glasses, I thought to myself, “Now, this is my kind of art project!”

Chalk based paint is a special paint that covers just about any surface and has chalk as one of the ingredients. Some people think that chalk based paint can be used to create a chalk board but this is a common misconception. The two explained the differences between other chalk based paint brands vs. the Country Chic brand they sell in their store. Country Chic is very forgiving when it comes to new or low experienced users. We also got to see their new limited edition colors – beautiful!

My favorite part of the night was learning about the various waxes that can be used on top of the chalk based paint. These waxes give the piece a difference finish such as pearl, vintage or natural. Pearl was definitely the group’s favorite! It made our mason jars and frames have a pearly shine.

All in all, it was a really fun night! It was a great way to meet new people, get inspired to tackle your own chalk based paint project or have a fun girls’ night out. I would highly recommend checking out their next class. It hasn’t been scheduled yet but stay posted by following their Facebook page. The cost was only $50 and you get to bring home TWO awesome projects, use any of the colors available and play with the finishing waxes. Make sure to tell your mom, sisters and your girlfriends to check it out!
